Fit a cycle and read the turn bands

The daily cycle projection on the chart, and its turn days shaded on a 4-hour chart.

Bitcoin in Studio: the cycle projection switched on from Studies and fitted to the daily bars, then read on the 4-hour chart, where the daily cycle's high is a shaded day.

Before you start

  • The cycle projection comes with the free fourteen-day trial or Pro: sign in to Studio with Google to start the trial.
  • Open BTCUSDT on the daily chart. Cycles are fitted to daily bars.

Steps

  1. 1Open Studies, search cycle projection and press Show beside Cycle projection.
  2. 2Wait a few seconds while Studio fits the strongest cycles to the daily bars. The gold line is their sum.
  3. 3Read the legend at the top left: which way the projection is heading, how many cycles it uses and how long they are.
  4. 4Follow the dashed part of the line: that's the projection, carried past the last bar into the shaded forecast zone.
  5. 5Change the interval to 4 hours (or 1 hour). The daily cycle's highs and lows now show as shaded days: red for a high, green for a low, stronger when the day is still ahead.

Reading it

On an intraday chart the daily curve is almost flat over a few days, so what it has to say is which days it turns on. A reversal inside a shaded day is the daily model's turn arriving; one outside it isn't.

On hourly bars and longer the daily curve is drawn too, on its own scale. On a short window there may be no band at all: the next projected turn can be weeks away.

The projection is a fitted model, not a forecast you can count on. Open the cycle model's panel to see how it scored out of sample before relying on it.
